Amman [Jordan]: The 2025 Senior Asian Wrestling Championship concluded with an impressive performance by the Indian Free Style wrestling team, as they wrapped up the tournament with a strong medal tally.
On the final day, Indian wrestlers showcased resilience and skill across five weight categories, securing two silver and one bronze medal.
Udit (61 kg) Clinches Silver in a Hard-Fought Battle
Competing in the 61 kg category, Udit displayed exceptional form throughout the tournament. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Bekbolot Myrzanazar Ullu (9-6) and followed it up with a 2-0 victory over China’s Wanhao Zou in the semifinals.
However, in a thrilling final match, he fell just short against Japan’s Takara Suda, losing 6-4, and settled for his second consecutive silver medal at the championship.
Deepak Punia (92 kg) Wins Silver After a Dominant Run
Deepak Punia put on a commanding display in the 92 kg category, overpowering Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzat Rakhimov (12-7) in the quarterfinals and Japan’s Takashi Ishiguro (8-1) in the semifinals.
In the gold medal match, he faced Iran’s Amirhossein Biglar, but despite his efforts, he lost 10-0, securing a well-deserved silver medal.
Dinesh Kumar (125 kg) Wins Bronze in a Nail-Biting Contest
Dinesh Kumar (125 kg) battled fiercely against Turkmenistan’s Zyyamuhammet Saparov, clinching a bronze medal with a 12-12 victory on technical superiority.
Unfortunately, Mukul Dahiya (86 kg) narrowly missed out on a podium finish, losing his bronze medal match to Japan’s Tatsuya Shirai (4-2).
