The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several regions of India over the next five days, raising alerts for diverse weather conditions.
Speaking to ANI on Friday, IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava said that Southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka will see persistent rainfall and stormy weather. Similar conditions will affect Central India, while the Northeast, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, is also expected to receive continued rainfall.
Meanwhile, parts of Northwestern India are likely to experience thunderstorms alongside heatwave conditions.
Delhi Set for Brief Respite
Residents of Delhi may see some relief from the heat, with light rainfall and thunderstorms expected in the evening today and tomorrow. According to Srivastava, this could bring temperatures down to around 37–39°C.
Heatwave Impacts in Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, the rising temperatures have begun affecting public health, especially among children. Dr. V Singh, Senior Medical Consultant, said:
“We’re seeing increased cases of typhoid, fever, loose motion, cold, and cough. Around 25-30 children are being admitted daily, and about 200 patients are coming in.”
He advised the public to avoid street food, citing the risk of adulteration during summer.
Dr. Rajendra, from ACMS District Hospital Moradabad, confirmed a rise in cases of vomiting and diarrhoea due to the heat.
“We are seeing 2,200 to 2,500 patients daily in the OPD. While there’s a rise in heat-related ailments, it’s still manageable,” he said.
Summary
- Rainfall and storms: Forecast for South, Central, and Northeast India over the next 5 days.
