Harmanpreet Kaur Aims To Lead Mumbai Indians To WPL Glory Again In 2025

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], February 6: Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur is optimistic about securing a second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title as the third edition of the highly anticipated tournament approaches. The WPL 2025 will be held across four cities – Baroda, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai – beginning February 14 at the newly built BCA Stadium in Baroda.

The season opener will see Gujarat Giants (GG) face off against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). After a strong start in the inaugural season, Mumbai Indians finished second in the standings last year but were ultimately derailed by back-to-back defeats in the playoffs. Harmanpreet remains hopeful, saying, “The tournament is very important for us. Everyone is practising well. The camp is going well, and we are very excited for this season. Hopefully, we will win the trophy again.”

Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Harmanpreet noted the balanced squads across all teams this season, making every match a tough battle. “All teams appear to be balanced. I think this season we will see exciting games, and there won’t be any easy games for us,” she added.

Harmanpreet also highlighted the positive impact the WPL has had on women’s cricket, offering young players a chance to play at the highest level alongside international cricketers. “Since the arrival of WPL, women’s cricket has been improving. Before, hardly 15 to 20 women cricketers got the chance to play top-level cricket. But now there are a lot of young players who get to play with and against international cricketers,” she said.

The tournament will kick off in Baroda, where six matches will be held before moving to Bengaluru for RCB’s first home game against Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 21. The final leg will be in Mumbai at the iconic Cricket Club of India (CCI), which will host the last two league matches and the high-stakes Playoff games. Mumbai Indians will conclude the league stage with back-to-back home games against Gujarat Giants and RCB on March 10 and 11, respectively.

For the 2025 season, Mumbai Indians have retained a strong squad, including Harmanpreet Kaur, Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Amelia Kerr. The franchise has also brought in new talent during the mini-auction, including South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk, Madhya Pradesh’s Sanskriti Gupta, and Rajasthan pacer Akshita Maheshwari, completing their 18-member squad.

Mumbai Indians WPL 2025 Squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Amandeep Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Chloe Tryon, Hayley Matthews, Jintimani Kalita, Keerthana Balakrishnan, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Pooja Vastrakar, Saika Ishaque, Sajana S, Shabnim Ismail, Yastika Bhatia, Nadine de Klerk, G Kamalini, Sanskriti Gupta, Akshita Maheshwari.
