The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released a statement explaining how to deal with problems with electoral records after recent claims of voter fraud in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The ECI said that the best time to bring up any problems with the rolls is during the “Claims and Objections” period. This is a month-long window that the public and political parties have to do so once the draft rolls are made public.
“The right time to bring up any problems with the Electoral Rolls would have been during the Claims and Objections period of that phase,” the ECI said in a press release. The commission said that bringing up problems through the right channels at the right time would have given the officials a chance to fix any real flaws before the polls.

The ECI also said that all political parties can see both digital and paper versions of the draft electoral register on the ECI website. In the same way, after the final electoral rolls are made public, copies are sent to all recognized political parties and put online. The ECI ended by saying that it still welcomes political parties and any voter to look at the electoral rolls.
