Representing his Sikh heritage on a global platform, Diljit walked the red carpet of the Metropolitan Museum in New York City in a traditional yet contemporary ensemble—a turban, kurta, and tehmat—symbolizing his deep-rooted cultural pride.
His appearance didn’t just make waves for his fashion statement. Diljit was also seen sharing memorable moments with global icons Shakira and Nicole Scherzinger during what appeared to be a pre-event photoshoot. A video posted by Diljit’s team showed Shakira warmly introducing everyone in a luxurious car, capturing candid moments with Diljit and Nicole. When the camera focused on the Punjabi star, Shakira beamed and said, “Diljit! Diljit!” to which he responded with a respectful namaste gesture. Shakira then delighted Indian fans with a heartfelt, “Hi to India.”
Diljit was among the select few invited to the exclusive dinner hosted by Anna Wintour, making his debut even more significant. Notably, he became the first turbaned actor-singer to walk the Met Gala red carpet, earning admiration across social media. Fans praised his thoughtful attire with comments like “So proud” and “Goosebumps.”
Both Diljit and Shakira were dressed by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung, adding another layer of South Asian representation to fashion’s biggest night.
