Defence Expert Dismisses Trump’s Kashmir Mediation Offer, Calls for Tangible US Support To Counter Pakistan’s Grey Zone Warfare

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], May 11: In response to US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan, Defence Expert Brigadier Hemant Mahajan (Retd) on Sunday dismissed the move as ineffective, citing Trump’s history of failed attempts at resolving global conflicts.

Brigadier Mahajan remarked, “Trump had earlier claimed twice that he had no interest in the Kashmir conflict. Now, suddenly, he wants to play peacemaker. His past mediation attempts between Ukraine and Russia, or Hamas and others, were ignored. So this sudden interest in India appears meaningless. Pakistan cannot be trusted, and Trump’s negotiations carry no weight.”

Brigadier Mahajan further highlighted the ongoing grey zone warfare tactics employed by Pakistan, including cross-border drone incursions and ceasefire violations, aimed at disrupting India’s economic and strategic assets.

“We must tell Donald Trump and America—if they truly consider themselves friends of India—then practical support is what we need. We require technological intelligence, high-end technology, and drones, not unsolicited advice,” he stated.

Mahajan called for a firm and punitive approach from India toward ceasefire violations. “Pakistan’s intent is to harm our economic activity and airfields through drone threats, forcing us into blackouts. Every act of aggression must be met with a five times harsher response to deter future violations.”

The remarks came in the wake of President Trump’s statement on Truth Social, where he welcomed the recent cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, referencing the potential for a nuclear fallout had peace not been achieved.

“I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” Trump claimed, adding that he hopes to help resolve the Kashmir issue while substantially increasing trade with both countries.

However, India has consistently rejected any third-party mediation on Kashmir, reaffirming that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and that all bilateral matters with Pakistan must be resolved directly, in accordance with the Simla Agreement.
