Washington [US], June 8: Fans of Big Little Lies may soon have something to celebrate. Series creator David E. Kelley has shared optimistic updates about a potential third season of the hit HBO drama.
Speaking at the Gotham TV Awards, Kelley told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re hoping it happens… I’m hopeful it’ll happen.” The Emmy-winning series, starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Meryl Streep, has been on hiatus since its second season wrapped in 2019.
Kelley revealed that a possible Season 3 would be based on a new book written by Liane Moriarty, the author behind the original Big Little Lies novel. “She’s written another book that season three will be based on,” Kelley shared, highlighting Moriarty’s ongoing creative influence.
Although no cast members are currently under contract, Kelley emphasized that “everyone involved is very committed to it.” Reuniting the powerhouse ensemble remains a logistical challenge, but interest among the stars appears strong.
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, who both serve as executive producers, have recently reignited buzz about the show’s return. Witherspoon shared that Kidman had informed the cast that progress was underway, with Kidman confirming, “We’re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book.”
While HBO has yet to officially confirm a green light for Season 3, Kelley’s comments and the cast’s enthusiasm signal that Monterey’s secrets may soon resurface.
