Congress Slams ED Chargesheet in National Herald Case; Calls Waqf Amendments “Unconstitutional Land Grab”

Congress National Spokesperson Atul Londhe on Wednesday strongly condemned the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) prosecution complaint against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and other Congress leaders in the alleged National Herald money laundering case, calling it yet another example of the political misuse of investigative agencies.

“This is another big example of how investigation agencies are politically used. We’ve said it again and again – not even one paisa has been laundered. This is a dangerous precedent for the country and democracy. We condemn this,” Londhe said while speaking to media.

He asserted that Congress workers will not be intimidated and accused the ruling government of trying to silence dissent through legal intimidation.

⚖️ Waqf Amendment Act Under Fire: “Unconstitutional Attempt to Grab Land”

Commenting on the pleas filed in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Amendment Act, Londhe slammed the amendments as unconstitutional and communal, alleging it was part of a broader plan to seize land across communities.

“This is an attempt to grab land anyhow. It’s Waqf land today, tomorrow it will be churches’ land, and they’ve already interfered with temples and mutts. People have seen through this Hindu-Muslim politics,” he said.

He claimed that the amendments in the Waqf Act were filled with lies and that the public was becoming increasingly aware of the divisive political narrative being pushed.

🕌 IUML Joins In: Supreme Court Hears Petitions

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has also challenged the Waqf Amendment Act in the Supreme Court. IUML National General Secretary PK Kunhalikutty echoed Congress’ concerns, saying:

“We are confident. The Supreme Court is taking up the matter. We have filed our petition, and senior advocate Kapil Sibal is appearing. We believe this Act goes against the Constitution.”

🧿 A Wider Political Context

The ED’s chargesheet in the National Herald case and the controversy around the Waqf Amendment Act come at a time when the Congress party is ramping up nationwide protests against what it calls the “misuse of federal agencies”.

Congress has planned district-level protests in front of ED offices across the country, asserting that the actions are part of a systematic campaign to target opposition leaders ahead of the general elections.
