Washington DC [US], June 9: The beloved cast and creators of the iconic 1995 teen comedy Clueless reunited at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary. The event featured a screening and panel discussion with stars Alicia Silverstone, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, as well as director Amy Heckerling, costume designer Mona May, and casting director Marcia Ross.
Alicia Silverstone, who played the fashion-forward and lovable Cher Horowitz, shared a heartwarming anecdote about her 14-year-old son Bear’s early love for the film.
“I remember when my son was 5, when he first saw it,” she said, explaining that the only reason she allowed it at that age was because it was screened outdoors.
“He didn’t know what was going on… the only thing he took away was the kiss at the end. He started kissing me more. It was so sweet,” she recalled.
Bear, who’s now seen the movie “maybe four times,” accompanied Silverstone to the event to celebrate the milestone.
Loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless became a cultural phenomenon with a cast that included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Brittany Murphy, and Dan Hedaya. The film later inspired a spin-off TV series that aired from 1996 to 1999, starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher.
In April, Silverstone revealed she’s open to reprising her role for a sequel series in development at Peacock.
“Totally buggin’… in the best way..,” she wrote on Instagram.
The project is a follow-up to the original film, with Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage onboard as writers, and Jordan Weiss also attached. Amy Heckerling, Alicia Silverstone, and producer Robert Lawrence will serve as executive producers.
