Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Wednesday accused the opposition parties of attempting to incite unrest by spreading false and divisive narratives related to the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
Addressing reporters in Hajipur, Paswan said, “It is deeply worrying to see attempts being made to create conflict across the country. Some opposition leaders are deliberately trying to stoke tensions between communities and mislead the Muslim population for political gain.”
Paswan drew comparisons to past controversies, citing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir. “Just like they falsely portrayed the CAA as anti-Muslim, they are now misrepresenting the Waqf Act. Even reforms like the Triple Talaq law, which empowered marginalized Muslim women, were misused for political propaganda,” he added.
He appealed for calm and urged citizens to “see through the misinformation and understand the true intentions behind the government’s reforms.”
Shifting focus to the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Paswan expressed confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). “There are visible rifts within the Mahagathbandhan. Our priority is to strengthen the NDA. We are confident of scripting a historic victory in the polls,” he said.
In response to internal criticisms within the opposition bloc, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav reaffirmed the unity of the INDIA alliance. Speaking to media in Patna, he dismissed statements from JDU leaders, saying, “We are united and strong. A productive meeting has taken place among INDIA bloc members. Let JDU say what they want, it doesn’t affect us.”
The Bihar Assembly elections are slated for later this year, with political activity heating up on both sides of the aisle. The NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the BJP, will face off against the Mahagathbandhan, a coalition of RJD, Congress, and Left parties under the INDIA alliance.
