Border Calm Returns: Normalcy Resumes In Jaisalmer And Barmer After Ceasefire, Missile Defused Without Casualties

Two days after the Indian and Pakistani Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) reached an understanding to halt hostilities, normalcy is gradually returning to border villages in Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir, offering a moment of relief to residents affected by days of tension.

Markets Open, Peace Returns

Morning scenes in Barmer and Jaisalmer reflected a return to routine life, with markets open and people resuming daily activities. Residents expressed relief, with local businesses back in operation.

“Everything is normal. The market is open, there are no issues during the day. Shops close around 7:30 PM. Our livelihood is not affected,” said a local resident from Jaisalmer.

Missile Incident in Jaisalmer

Tensions had peaked on Saturday morning when a Pakistani missile landed in an agricultural field in Jaisalmer. Fortunately, it did not explode and was safely defused by security personnel.

The missile was found in a field belonging to Puran Singh Bhati, former chairman of the Land Development Bank.

“Around 4:30 AM, three loud explosions were heard. We discovered the missile in my farm and alerted the administration. We are proud of our armed forces and confident in PM Modi’s leadership,” Bhati told reporters.

Security Measures & Warnings

While calm prevails, Jaisalmer SP Sudhir Choudhary reported that ammunition and suspicious objects have been found in some areas. Citizens are urged to:

  • Avoid touching unknown objects
  • Inform the police immediately
  • Refrain from posting such items on social media

So far, four suspects have been arrested, and 12 individuals who made suspicious calls across the border are under investigation.

“The situation is mostly normal, but people must remain alert and follow police directions,” SP Choudhary said.

India Responds to Ceasefire Violation

Despite the agreement between DGMOs to cease hostilities from May 10 evening, India reported multiple violations by Pakistan, including drone intrusions and cross-border shelling, prompting strong retaliatory action by the Indian Army.
