BJP leader RP Singh on Monday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over a resurfaced video showing a Sikh youth in the US questioning the Congress for its alleged association with individuals accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
RP Singh accused Gandhi of “spreading enmity in society” whenever he travels abroad:
“Last time he went out, he pointed at a Sikh youth and said that he is treated as a second-class citizen. But it is nothing like that. If he has the guts, let him make such a statement in India—I will file a case against him,” RP Singh said.
The controversy follows a clip shared by BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya, where a young Sikh man confronts Rahul Gandhi about the Congress’s historical stance on the 1984 riots. Malviya posted:
“You haven’t reconciled with the Sikhs,” a young man tells Rahul Gandhi to his face… It is quite unprecedented that Rahul Gandhi is now being ridiculed not just in India, but around the world.”
Meanwhile, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh targeted Rahul Gandhi over comments reportedly made during the same US visit, where Gandhi referred to Lord Ram and other deities as “mythological.”
“Lord Ram is not a myth, but the country’s soul. If you wear the spectacles of Italy, how would you find Lord Ram?” Chugh said, referencing Gandhi’s Italian heritage.
Quoting poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Chugh accused Gandhi of “insulting” Sanatan Dharma and reiterated the BJP’s allegation that the Congress is anti-Ram, recalling the party’s earlier boycott of the Ram Temple consecration and its controversial affidavit denying the existence of Lord Ram.
The dual attack from BJP leaders underscores the intensifying political and cultural narrative battle ahead of the 2024 general elections, where both religious identity and historical accountability remain focal points.
