India Responds To 11th Consecutive Day Of Unprovoked Pakistan Firing Across LoC

Amid heightened border tensions following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army responded effectively to another round of unprovoked small arms firing by the Pakistan Army across the Line of Control (LoC) during the night of May 4–5, officials confirmed on Monday.

The firing occurred in multiple sectors, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor areas of Jammu and Kashmir. As with previous incidents, the Indian Army responded with calibrated and proportionate force, maintaining its stance on defending Indian positions while avoiding escalation.

This marks the eleventh consecutive day of Pakistani ceasefire violations since April 25–26, when unprovoked firing first resumed in the region. A senior defence official said:

“The Indian Army continues to respond promptly to these provocations, ensuring security and stability along the LoC.”

Earlier, between May 3–4, similar violations were reported and met with effective Indian retaliation in the same border districts.

Tensions have been high since the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed. In a major diplomatic move following the attack, India closed its airspace to all Pakistani-registered and operated aircraft, including military flights, beginning April 30. The Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) is effective until May 23.

On April 29, military officials from both sides spoke over the hotline to discuss the flare-up. India reportedly issued a stern warning to Pakistan against further ceasefire violations, citing the sustained pattern of aggression.

Defence sources underline that while India remains committed to peace, it will not tolerate any threat to national sovereignty or civilian safety.
