BJP MP Anurag Thakur announced that the party has filed a police complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of assault and incitement during a scuffle outside Makar Dwar, where NDA MPs were holding a peaceful protest.
Speaking to reporters, Thakur detailed the charges filed under Sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131, and 351 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
“We have filed a complaint with Delhi Police against Rahul Gandhi for assault and incitement. We have mentioned in detail the incident that happened today outside Makar Dwar, where NDA MPs were protesting peacefully… We have given a complaint under Sections 109, 115, 117, 125, 131, and 351. Section 109 is an attempt to murder, Section 117 is voluntary causing grievous hurt,” Thakur said.
The altercation reportedly injured BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who were admitted to Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Medical Superintendent Ajay Shukla confirmed that both leaders suffered head injuries and were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
On Pratap Sarangi’s condition, Shukla stated:
“Pratap Sarangi was experiencing heavy bleeding and had suffered a deep cut, requiring stitches. His evaluation is ongoing.”
Regarding Mukesh Rajput, he added:
“Mukesh Rajput had fallen unconscious earlier. He is now conscious but feeling dizzy and anxious. His blood pressure had shot up.”
BJP Criticism of Congress Over Ambedkar Legacy:
Anurag Thakur also targeted the Opposition for their protests against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the Nehru-Gandhi family historically disrespected Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
“Nehru-Gandhi family always disrespected Ambedkar. Nehru himself conspired against Ambedkar to make him lose elections and forced him to quit politics. Three generations of Congress did not give Babasaheb Bharat Ratna. The Gandhi family that used to torture and ignore him, today when they have been exposed in front of the country in the parliamentary session, are compelled to go out with Babasaheb’s photo,” Thakur said.
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj echoed similar sentiments, accusing Congress of exploiting Ambedkar’s name for political gain. She also criticized the party’s inconsistency on Article 370, abolished by the Modi government in 2019.
“Congress murdered democracy in our country. Now they are hypocritically positioning themselves as the protectors of the Constitution… By abolishing Article 370 and establishing Panchteerth, PM Narendra Modi gave cognisance to Ambedkar’s last-mile delivery policy. Congress party has been misusing the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar for their political selfishness. They should apologise to the country,” she said.
Parallel Protests in Parliament:
Both BJP and INDIA bloc MPs staged protests in Parliament on Thursday. BJP MPs protested against Congress for allegedly “insulting” Ambedkar, while INDIA bloc MPs, led by Rahul Gandhi, demanded Amit Shah’s resignation over his remarks about Ambedkar during a Rajya Sabha debate.
The parallel protests resulted in adjournments in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, further escalating the political row. The Congress has called for Shah’s resignation, while BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have strongly defended Shah and attacked the Opposition.
