Sonu Sood Highlights ‘Right Efforts’ In Directorial Debut Fateh, Praises Naseeruddin Shah’s Contribution

New Delhi [India], January 20: Bollywood actor Sonu Sood made his directorial debut with Fateh, an action-packed thriller that hit theatres on January 10. The film, inspired by real-life cybercrime events during the COVID-19 pandemic, has already garnered significant attention for its intense narrative and high-octane action sequences.

In a recent interview with ANI, Sood opened up about his filmmaking journey, his decision to choose the action genre for his debut, and his experience working with legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah for the first time in a directorial capacity.

Reflecting on his experience directing Shah, Sood expressed immense admiration for the veteran actor’s discipline and approach to cinema. “I’ve worked with him in Maximum as an actor, and I believe Naseer sir is like an institute in himself. Being on set with him offers so many lessons. His discipline and approach towards cinema are incredible,” Sood shared.

Sood also highlighted Shah’s improvisational skills, which added depth to the film. “When I started making the film, I knew Naseer ji was the kind of actor who could take just a few lines and improve them, justifying them in his own way,” he said. “The weight he added to the movie was a huge learning experience for me.”

Sood recalled a famous interview with filmmaker Steven Spielberg, in which he said, “When your movie’s writing is finished, the movie is also made.” Sood revealed that this philosophy guided him throughout the filmmaking process, encouraging him and his team to always strive for improvement. “We didn’t think that just because the film was made, it was done. We kept asking ourselves how we could make it better and what we could add to enhance it,” he said.

His decision to transition to filmmaking came from his extensive experience as an actor. “As an actor, you sometimes wish the direction would push you further or allow you to express your character in a more personal way,” Sood explained. “When you make your first film, you inevitably miss certain things as an actor, like wishing a director had guided you to do a scene differently or given you a dialogue that suited your style.”

As for the action sequences, Sood, who has always been known for his action roles, emphasized the importance of authenticity. “Action has always been my forte, and people often say Bollywood’s action doesn’t quite match up to Hollywood standards,” he said. “I made this film with love, hard work, and honesty. I didn’t make a film filled with masala, dance, and songs. I chose music that complemented the sequences.”

When asked about his definition of a movie’s success, Sood stressed the importance of balance. “Success lies in a mix of box office performance, audience love, and critical acclaim. All three need the right balance,” he said. “Box office numbers motivate producers, but critical acclaim is essential too, for those who appreciate intelligent cinema.”

Sood expressed respect for critics, acknowledging that the success and failure of a film are beyond a director’s control. “It’s the right efforts that matter,” he stated. “Just focusing on box office numbers shouldn’t overshadow everything else.”

Fateh features adrenaline-pumping action sequences choreographed by international stunt director Lee Whittaker, known for his work on Captain Marvel and Fast & Furious 5. The film boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, and Naseeruddin Shah, whose performances help bring the high-stakes narrative to life.

The movie’s visual appeal is enhanced by stunning international locations, with scenes shot in Istanbul, Dubai, and the United States, adding to its global appeal.
