New Delhi, December 10 : The Winter Session of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday following heated exchanges between members, leading to disruptions in the proceedings. Both opposition and treasury benches engaged in intense debates, which caused the day’s schedule to be derailed.
When the Lok Sabha reconvened, Speaker Om Birla expressed concern over what he described as “undignified demonstrations” within Parliament. He urged MPs to maintain decorum and set a positive example for the nation, emphasizing that Parliament has been a platform for constructive debate over the last 75 years. Birla also stressed the importance of addressing differences respectfully.
The session was marked by sharp accusations from both sides of the aisle. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government for obstructing discussions. “We try every day to have a discussion, but they avoid it… that’s why they adjourn the House on any pretext,” she said. Opposition MPs later gathered on the steps of Parliament to protest, demanding a government response to the ongoing Adani controversy.
Congress leader KC Venugopal accused the government of deliberately stalling parliamentary proceedings. “The government is saying that the Opposition is not allowing Parliament to run, but it is the government itself that has decided not to allow the House to function,” he alleged.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi echoed these sentiments, criticizing the ruling party for the disruption. “Today, the Speaker spoke about the dignity of the House, but when Question Hour began, members of the ruling party used any excuse to adjourn the session. For days, we’ve seen the government prevent the House from running,” Gogoi said.
In response, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the Congress of having ties with American billionaire George Soros, calling it a matter of national importance. “This is not an allegation from the BJP; it’s a report in the public domain. Rahul Gandhi’s conduct and his activities are well known to the people,” Rijiju said. “George Soros has openly declared war against India and its government.”
Union Minister Giriraj Singh also questioned the Congress’s stance, asking, “Why aren’t they clarifying the connection between George Soros and Sonia Gandhi? They are creating chaos both inside and outside the House.”
BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy took aim at the opposition, accusing them of hypocrisy. “They shout slogans and then claim that the House should run smoothly. Congress will have to answer for these contradictions,” Rudy said.
