New Delhi [India], December 10 : Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday stressed the need to uphold parliamentary proceedings, regardless of any challenges or disruptions. He noted that several MPs, including those from the Samajwadi Party, TMC, and Congress, have shown a willingness to engage in debate and discussion in the House.
“Regardless of the issues, parliamentary proceedings must not be disrupted. Many MPs, including those from the Samajwadi Party, TMC, and Congress, have approached me expressing their desire for debate and discussion. It is only Rahul Gandhi who seems unwilling to participate in parliamentary proceedings. Perhaps he doesn’t believe in parliamentary democracy. However, other MPs are keen on having discussions and addressing issues related to their constituencies,” Rijiju said.
The Minister also criticized Rahul Gandhi for being detached from key issues and lacking an understanding of the challenges faced by the people. “Rahul Gandhi doesn’t seem to care about the issues that matter, and he lacks an understanding of the people’s struggles. When Congress MPs approach me, I advise them to convince their leader. The government is not weak—we have the numbers. If important bills and legislative matters need to be passed, we will do so. However, we are currently holding off to allow for proper discussions on those issues and seek input from all MPs. The Opposition cannot obstruct the functioning of Parliament. When it’s time to pass bills, the government is fully capable of doing so,” he said.
