India Updates List Of 67 Banned Terrorist Organizations And Unlawful Associations

New Delhi [India]: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released an updated list of 67 terrorist organizations and unlawful associations facing bans under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for their involvement in activities threatening India’s security.

The list includes 45 groups designated as terrorist organizations under Section 35 of the UAPA, while 22 others are classified as unlawful associations under Section 3(1) of the Act.

Several of these groups have been involved in militancy, separatism, and violence across India. The declaration of these banned organizations is part of India’s continued efforts to combat terrorism and extremist activities. Groups listed under the UAPA face strict legal actions, such as asset freezes and arrests of members involved in unlawful activities.

The updated list of terrorist organizations includes:

  • Babbar Khalsa International
  • Khalistan Commando Force
  • Khalistan Zindabad Force
  • International Sikh Youth Federation
  • Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) / Pasban-e-Ahle Hadis / The Resistance Front (TRF)
  • Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) / Tahreik-e-Furqan / People’s Anti-Fascist-Front (PAFF)
  • Hizb-ul-Mujahideen / Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Pir Panjal Regiment
  • Al-Umar-Mujahideen
  • Jammu and Kashmir Islamic Front
  • United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)
  • National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB)
  • People’s Liberation Army (PLA)
  • United National Liberation Front (UNLF)
  • People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK)
  • Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)
  • Kanglei Yaol Kanba Lup (KYKL)
  • Manipur Peoples Liberation Front (MPLF)

Unlawful Associations

The following groups are categorized as unlawful associations:

  • Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)
  • United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)
  • All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF)
  • National Liberation Front (NLFT)
  • Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)
  • Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)
  • Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates
  • Islamic Research Foundation (IRF)
  • Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir
  • Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Yasin Malik faction)

The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, is India’s primary anti-terrorism law that empowers authorities to declare organizations as terrorist groups or unlawful associations. This designation results in banning their operations in India, freezing financial assets, restricting fund-raising, and legal action against members involved.

The Indian government regularly updates this list to counter evolving threats from militant and extremist organizations operating within and outside the country.
