‘Daryl Mitchell, New Travis Head’: NZ Batter Stuns Fans With Historic ODI Century in Indore

New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell once again proved why Indian conditions suit him perfectly, delivering a sensational century against India during the third ODI at Holkar Stadium, Indore. The 34-year-old right-hander continued his remarkable dominance on Indian soil, leaving fans and experts in awe of his consistency and composure.

Mitchell’s latest hundred came off 104 balls and marked his fourth ODI century against India in India, achieved in just his eighth match in the country. With this feat, he became only the second batter in ODI history to score four centuries against India on Indian soil, underlining his growing reputation as a major thorn in India’s bowling attack.

Social media lit up soon after his innings, with many netizens drawing comparisons between Mitchell and Australia’s Travis Head — another overseas batter known for tormenting Indian bowlers in big matches. Some fans even jokingly suggested that, like Head, Mitchell should be “banned” from touring India due to the damage he consistently inflicts.

Mitchell’s recent ODI numbers against India only strengthen the narrative. His last seven innings against the hosts read: 130, 134, 17, 63, 84, 131, and an unbeaten 100 — a staggering run of form rarely seen by visiting batters.

Adding to his list of records, Mitchell also became the first player ever to score five consecutive 50-plus scores against India in ODIs played in India, a milestone no batter had previously achieved.

Currently ranked No. 2 in the ICC ODI batting rankings, Mitchell has been central to New Zealand’s strong showing in the series. His performances were crucial in the second ODI win in Rajkot — New Zealand’s first ODI victory over India in eight years — and he carried that momentum into the decider at Indore.

With each innings, Daryl Mitchell is strengthening his case as one of the most dangerous overseas batters India faces in modern-day ODI cricket.
