Mumbai, April 15: Shoojit Sircar’s groundbreaking comedy Vicky Donor, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam, is all set to return to the big screen. The beloved 2012 film will be re-released on April 18, 2025, with specially curated shows by PVR-INOX.
Director Shoojit Sircar took to Instagram on Monday to share the news, calling it a tribute to the late Jayanta Das and Akshay Verma, both of whom were part of the film. “VICKY DONOR rereleasing on 18th April. PVR-INOX CURATED SHOWS. A tribute to our dear friends Jayanta Das and Akshay Verma,” he wrote.
Producer John Abraham, who made his production debut with the film, also expressed his excitement. “My debut film as a producer is back on the big screen this weekend–April 18th! A bold, ahead-of-its-time story with a message that still hits home,” he said on Instagram, praising the work of Sircar, screenwriter Juhi Chaturvedi, and the cast. “Don’t miss this jaw-dropping comedy with a large heart!”
Released in 2012, Vicky Donor was a path-breaking film that tackled the taboo topic of sperm donation and infertility in a humorous yet thoughtful way. It marked the acting debuts of Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam and was lauded for its progressive storytelling and strong performances.
The film went on to win three National Film Awards, including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. It also featured memorable performances from Annu Kapoor, Dolly Ahluwalia, Tarun Bali, Krishna Singh Bisht, and Swaroopa Ghosh.
With its re-release, audiences will have a chance to relive one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved comedies that mixed laughter with meaningful commentary on modern relationships and societal change.
