Assam Rifles Seizes 2,286 kg Marijuana Worth ₹10.29 Crore in Tripura, Two Arrested

Massive narcotics crackdown in West Tripura; Assam Rifles and Customs Department deal a significant blow to smuggling networks

Agartala (Tripura), February 23: In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Department, seized a massive 2,286.9 kg of marijuana from the Vijayanagar area in West Tripura district on Saturday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces launched a well-coordinated operation, striking a decisive blow to smuggling networks operating in the region. Officials confirmed that the seized contraband is valued at approximately ₹10.29 crore in the international market. Two individuals were apprehended during the operation, and both the suspects and the seized drugs have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.

This successful operation is part of Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities along border regions and strengthen national security.

Other Major Seizures in the Region

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Preventive Force in Mizoram, seized counterfeit cigarettes worth ₹42.5 lakh in the Chhungte area.

Based on specific intelligence, security forces launched an area domination patrol in Ruantlang on February 22 and discovered 1,250 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes hidden in a jungle. The recovered contraband was handed over to Customs authorities for further investigation, underscoring continued efforts to combat illicit trade in the region.

Additionally, on February 18, Assam Rifles and Zokhawthar Police conducted a successful anti-narcotics operation in the Vangkai, Zokhawthar area of Champhai district, Mizoram. They intercepted a consignment containing 7.1 kg of Methamphetamine tablets and 3.1 kg of Crystal Methamphetamine, with an estimated market value of ₹71.15 crore.

One suspect, identified as Vanlalruaia (59), a resident of Chhinga Veng, Aizawl, was arrested in connection with the drug haul. The individual and the recovered contraband were handed over to the Zokhawthar Police for further legal proceedings.

These operations highlight Assam Rifles’ continued commitment to countering illegal drug trade and smuggling activities in India’s northeastern border states.
