Assam CM Announces Arrest Over ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ Post Amid Crackdown Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

Guwahati (Assam) [India] : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced the arrest of a man for allegedly posting “Pakistan Zindabad” on Facebook, amid a nationwide crackdown following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), CM Sarma stated, “Md Mustak Ahmed @ Sahel, son of Kabir Ahmed from Saykut village under Karimganj Police Station, was arrested last night for posting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on Facebook.”

The arrest occurred late Friday night and is seen as part of intensified government efforts to curb any activity that could potentially threaten national security in the wake of the April 22 attack.

In the Pahalgam attack, terrorists targeted tourists at the Baisaran meadow, resulting in the death of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, with several others left injured. The incident has triggered a series of operations by security forces.

Authorities have demolished multiple properties in Jammu and Kashmir believed to be linked to individuals involved in the attack. In Shopian’s Chotipora village, the house of a suspect was torn down, followed by similar actions in Kulgam district where the house of Zakir Ahmad Ganie was demolished. Ganie is suspected of being involved in the planning and execution of the attack and has been active in terror activities since 2023.

On Friday, the house of most-wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Adil Thokar alias Adil Guree was also demolished. A resident of Guree village in Anantnag’s Bijbehara block, Adil had allegedly travelled to Pakistan illegally in 2018 for terror training and returned to the Valley last year. He is believed to be a key perpetrator in the April 22 attack.

Authorities have announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to Adil’s arrest. Additionally, two Pakistani nationals have also been declared most wanted in connection with the case.
