In a recent interview with Meri Saheli, Anita Advani, who was in a live-in relationship with late superstar Rajesh Khanna, claimed that she was secretly married to him. Advani, a former actor herself, was with Khanna for nearly eight years until his death in 2012.
When asked why she never married the superstar, Advani clarified, “We got married privately, but in the film industry, no one talks about such things openly.” She explained that they never felt the need to publicly announce their marriage because the media had already reported on their relationship.
Advani described the private ceremony, saying, “We had a small temple in our home. He had a mangalsutra made for me, made me wear a gold and black coloured bangle. Then he applied sindoor and said, ‘From today, you are my responsibility.’ That’s how our wedding happened one night, just like that.”
She also claimed that she was in Khanna’s life before he married Dimple Kapadia in 1973. Advani alleged that after Khanna’s death, his family did not allow her to attend his last rites and had bouncers to prevent her from entering.
Rajesh Khanna was married to Dimple Kapadia from 1973 until their separation in 1982. They had two daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna.
