New Delhi [India], April 11: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced another significant milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s integration process, stating that one more group has severed ties with the Hurriyat Conference, reaffirming allegiance to the Constitution of India and the vision of national unity.
Taking to social media platform X, Shah wrote,
“Under the Modi govt the spirit of unity rules J&K. Another Hurriyat affiliate organization, Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, has rejected separatism, declaring complete commitment to the unity of Bharat. I sincerely welcome their move.”
🇮🇳 12 Hurriyat-Linked Groups Exit Separatist Fold
With this latest move, a total of 12 organisations once associated with the separatist Hurriyat Conference have distanced themselves from its ideology and embraced the Indian Constitution.
Shah emphasized:
“This is a victory of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”
📉 Decline of the Hurriyat’s Influence
This announcement follows earlier disassociations by:
- Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party
- Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League
- Kashmir Freedom Front
They join a growing list that includes:
- J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal
- J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat
- J&K People’s Movement
- Democratic Political Movement
🛡️ Government’s Tough Stance on Separatism
This change in stance by former separatist factions comes after the Ministry of Home Affairs’ recent five-year ban on two Hurriyat-linked parties:
- Awami Action Committee (led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq)
- Jammu and Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (led by Masroor Abbas Ansari)
During the Budget Session, Amit Shah asserted in Parliament:
“From 2019 to 2024, 14 major Hurriyat-linked organisations were banned. The Hurriyat, once seen as a mediator in talks with Pakistan, has now been dismantled.”
💬 “Zero-Tolerance for Terrorism”
Shah contrasted the Modi government’s approach with that of past administrations:
“Previous governments were lenient toward terrorism for vote bank politics. Today, under PM Modi, a zero-tolerance policy is firmly in place.”
🔍 Broader Implications
This ongoing distancing from separatist ideology by former Hurriyat affiliates is being seen as a clear endorsement of India’s democratic process and a step toward lasting peace and stability in Kashmir.
