American Actor Devin Harjes Passes Away at 41 Due to Cancer

Washington DC [US], June 2: American television actor Devin Harjes, known for his roles in popular series like Boardwalk Empire, Daredevil, and Gotham, has passed away at the age of 41. As reported by People, Harjes died on May 27 from complications related to cancer at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City. He had been diagnosed with the illness last winter.

Harjes gained recognition for portraying boxing legend Jack Dempsey in Boardwalk Empire Season 2. He also played Pete Baylor, a member of the Meth Heads, in a nine-episode arc on the Netflix series Manifest.

Other notable roles included Oscar, a nurse at Rikers Island in Daredevil, and Clyde, a bank guard in Gotham. His television career also featured appearances in shows such as Blue Bloods, Orange Is the New Black, Elementary, and FBI.

Born in Lubbock, Texas, in July 1983, Harjes initially pursued a passion for animals, particularly horses. However, he eventually shifted his focus to acting, starting his career in the Dallas-Fort Worth theatre scene. He later moved to New York City, where he acted in student films and off-Broadway productions.

Harjes went on to make his mark in independent cinema, earning acclaim for roles in films like The Forest is Red, which earned him Best Actor at Italy’s Tolentino International Film Festival, and The Boyz of Summer.

Beyond acting, Harjes was known for his interest in martial arts and was a regular at the gym. His obituary notes that he often joked that gym workouts were “safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse.”

He is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, and his sister, Trich Harjes.
