AAP Initiates Restructuring Process Post Delhi Elections, Gopal Rai Announces Oath-Taking Ceremony And Strong Opposition Role

New Delhi [India], February 22: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai announced the party’s move to restructure its core and frontal wings following the recent Delhi Assembly election results. He reaffirmed the party’s dedication to playing a strong opposition role, and confirmed that the oath-taking ceremony for all AAP MLAs is scheduled for February 24. Afterward, the party will announce its Leader of Opposition (LoP).

Addressing the media, Gopal Rai shared details of a recent meeting held with the state office bearers of key AAP wings, including the Purvanchal wing, auto wing, and women’s wing. The meeting focused on the ongoing restructuring process within the party’s main wing and other organisations to strengthen their operations and ensure effective functioning.

“Following the election results, we have held a meeting with the state office bearers of all our major frontal organisations, including the Purvanchal wing, auto wing, and women’s wing. We have initiated the process of restructuring the main wing, and similarly, we will restructure the other wings as well,” Rai said.

He added, “Our legislative party will raise its voice in the House, and our wings within society will take on the responsibility of raising issues related to the promises made by the elected government in its manifesto. AAP will intensify its efforts to be a strong and constructive opposition.”

Rai also provided further details on the upcoming oath-taking event, stating, “On February 24, all the MLAs will take the oath. After that, we will announce our Leader of Opposition.”

Earlier, in a press conference, Gopal Rai criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly for not fulfilling its promise of providing financial assistance to Delhi women. He questioned the BJP’s commitment to its promises, especially regarding the Rs 2,500 financial assistance scheme.

“The BJP had promised Rs 2,500 to women in Delhi, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was supposed to announce this in the first cabinet meeting, but it was not done,” Rai said.

In a separate statement, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar attacked the BJP for not following through on its promises to Delhi women, while focusing instead on imposing its own agenda. Kakkar also highlighted the BJP’s unfulfilled promises in Haryana and Maharashtra, urging the government to prioritize its commitments in Delhi.

Former Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi joined the criticism, targeting the BJP and CM Rekha Gupta for not approving the Rs 2,500 financial assistance proposal for women during the first cabinet meeting. She accused the BJP of betraying the people of Delhi.

In response, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who chaired her first cabinet meeting after taking the oath, announced the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi, with an additional Rs 5 lakh top-up. She also confirmed that the 14 pending CAG reports would be tabled in the first legislative session. This was part of the BJP’s pre-poll promise, aimed at addressing the AAP government’s failure to implement the scheme.

Gupta also stated that the Delhi government would take responsibility for the top-up and sign an MoU with the Centre for the Ayushman Bharat scheme, ensuring affordable healthcare for every citizen in the national capital.
