Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta broke her silence on social media trolling after she was mocked for mispronouncing “AQI” (air quality index) as “AIQ.” Speaking in the Delhi Assembly during the Winter Session, Gupta called out what she described as “baseless allegations” and “cheap comments” targeting her.
“They say why did she spell AQI as AIQ… They don’t like that a woman Chief Minister is working round the clock for Delhi. Sometimes they disrespect me, sometimes they make cheap comments,” Gupta said. She emphasized that everyone makes mistakes while speaking, but her critics deliberately twist minor errors to attack her.
Gupta posted a video of her speech online, stating, “I have been working non-stop for Delhi, day in and day out. And that’s what gets to them. They can’t stand it. They can’t handle it.”
During her address, Gupta also compared her government’s 11 months in office with what she termed “11 years of mismanagement and corruption” under the previous Aam Aadmi Party administration. She highlighted achievements in health, education, transport, and infrastructure, including the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Vandana Yojana, digitisation in hospitals, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and palna centres for working women.
In the education sector, she claimed her government is curbing arbitrary practices in private schools. On essential services, Gupta pointed out that her administration has addressed issues such as cost overruns in hospital projects, irregular electricity connections, and inflated water bills, implementing measures like legal metering, water dues amnesty, and time-bound GST refunds to traders.
