The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 championship trophy took a memorable ride through Kolkata as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wrapped up their celebratory Trophy Tour in grand style, as per a release by the franchise.
The coveted trophy traveled across some of Kolkata’s most iconic landmarks in a specially decorated Yellow Ambassador Taxi, adorned in KKR’s signature purple and gold colors. The taxi, featuring the team’s popular hashtag #AmiKKR and motto ‘Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo’, became a moving tribute to KKR’s third IPL title. The vehicle’s interior was customized with purple upholstery, gold accents, and imagery showcasing the journey of this historic taxi over the years.
By selecting the Yellow Ambassador Taxi as the chariot for the trophy, KKR paid homage to one of Kolkata’s most cherished cultural symbols. These iconic taxis have been an integral part of the city’s identity for decades, much like KKR itself. The fusion of this beloved city emblem with the team’s championship celebrations highlights KKR’s deep-rooted connection with Kolkata’s heritage.
The trophy parade kicked off at the historic Victoria Memorial, where the IPL trophy was proudly displayed against the grand backdrop of the monument. From there, the procession moved to the iconic Howrah Bridge, where thousands of enthusiastic KKR supporters gathered to witness their team’s victory symbol against the legendary landmark. The first day of the tour concluded at the scenic Prinsep Ghat, along the banks of the Hooghly River, where fans rejoiced in KKR’s success.
This grand celebration in Kolkata marked the final leg of KKR’s Trophy Tour, which has taken the championship silverware across multiple cities, bringing fans closer to their favourite team.
Looking ahead, the Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 at the iconic Eden Gardens, aiming for another successful season.
