Mumbai (Maharashtra), January 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly constructed International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in the Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai on Wednesday. The temple, named Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Temple, was built through the dedicated efforts of ISKCON.
During the inauguration, PM Modi expressed his gratitude and spoke about the significance of the temple. “I am fortunate to be a part of this divine inauguration on this land of knowledge and devotion,” the PM said. He admired the design of the temple, which reflects India’s deep spiritual and intellectual traditions. “The form and vision of the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Mandir showcases the essence of spirituality and knowledge. I am confident that this temple will become a key center for enriching the faith and consciousness of the people,” he added.
The Prime Minister also remembered Gopal Krishna Goswami, the former ISKCON chairman who passed away on May 5, 2024, acknowledging his immense contribution to the project. “Though he may not be with us physically today, his spiritual presence continues to guide us,” said Modi.
PM Modi praised Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, for his remarkable efforts in spreading the message of Vedas, Vedanta, and the Gita during the colonial era. “In the 70s, when most people had settled into their lives, Srila Prabhupada began the mission of ISKCON, linking Vedanta to the consciousness of people,” he noted.
The PM also highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at improving the lives of citizens, including the construction of toilets, Ujjwala gas connections for poor women, tap water supply to every household, and free healthcare coverage for the underprivileged.
Furthermore, PM Modi discussed the Krishna Circuit, a project designed to connect various pilgrimage sites across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha, aiming to enhance spiritual tourism in India.
Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and BJP MP Hema Malini were also present at the event.
