60 Per Cent Terrorists Killed In J&K Are Pakistanis”: Army Chief

New Delhi [India], January 13: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi revealed that 60 percent of terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistani nationals, while 80 percent of the active terrorists in the region are also from Pakistan. He made these comments while discussing security issues along India’s northern borders, stating that while the situation remains “sensitive,” it is currently “stable.”

Addressing the media, General Dwivedi highlighted the ongoing efforts to transition from terrorism to tourism in J&K, emphasizing the significant role of Pakistan-based terrorists in the region.

“At a time when we are moving towards tourism from terrorism, 80 percent of the terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistani. 60 percent of the terrorists killed in the region are also Pakistanis,” said the Army chief.

Regarding the situation in Eastern Ladakh, General Dwivedi confirmed that issues in the Depsang and Demchok regions had been resolved as of October, with traditional patrolling and grazing activities resuming in these areas. He authorized co-commanders to address these issues at the ground level, ensuring that minor disputes are handled by the military.

“We are well poised to deal with any situation, with our deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) being balanced and robust,” General Dwivedi stated, also noting that niche technology has been incorporated into the Indian Army’s war-fighting systems for enhanced preparedness.

Discussing security in Manipur, the Army chief acknowledged the ongoing violence but reassured that security forces were working to restore peace. “Enhanced surveillance and increased dominance over the Myanmar border are in place, and fencing work is progressing,” he added.

General Dwivedi also spoke on the importance of collaboration between the media and security forces for national security and nation-building. “Mass media and security forces have great potential to work together towards the nation’s security and development,” he concluded.
