36 Dead, 528 Injured In Karachi Tragedy: 2025 Incident Update

Karachi [Pakistan], January 16: In the first two weeks of 2025, Karachi has witnessed a significant rise in fatalities linked to road accidents, robberies, and aerial firing, according to a report by Chipa Foundation, cited by ARY News.

The report indicates that 36 people lost their lives in various traffic accidents, while 528 others, including children, the elderly, and young adults, were injured in incidents during this period.

Additionally, the report highlights the ongoing issue of violent robbery resistance, with three fatalities and over 15 injuries reported in such incidents. Two murders in Zaman Town within 12 days have sparked widespread outrage. Saahil Masih was killed during a robbery attempt, and Asif was murdered at Ghaghar Phatak. In another incident, Hafiz Muzafar was shot dead after he raised an alarm upon encountering robbers.

Despite these incidents, law enforcement in Malir and Korangi has yet to apprehend any suspects, raising concerns about the efficiency of the police force in addressing these crimes.

Aerial firing, a recurring issue in the city, has also contributed to the rising death toll. One person was killed, and 11 others—including nine men and two women—were injured due to celebratory gunfire.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, a man was shot dead after resisting a robbery attempt in Karachi. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kamran Khan, five robbers entered a house intending to commit a crime. When a youth, who had come to offer Fajr prayers, raised an alarm, the robbers retaliated and shot him dead.

Earlier, another man was killed while resisting a robbery at his tyre shop near the government Islamia Law College in Karachi.
