Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of the late NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, has raised concerns over alleged links between slum rehabilitation (SRA) projects in Bandra and his father’s murder. He has called for a thorough investigation into this angle, citing potential connections between the redevelopment projects and the motive behind the killing.
Zeeshan’s statement forms part of the chargesheet filed earlier this month in the Baba Siddiqui murder case. In it, he stressed the need to explore the redevelopment project perspective, expressing dissatisfaction with the police investigation for allegedly overlooking this critical aspect.
“My father’s death should be investigated from the redevelopment project’s perspective and all other angles,” Zeeshan said in his statement.
Zeeshan also noted that his father was poised to be nominated to the legislative council, with the oath ceremony scheduled for October 15—two days after his murder.
Referring to media reports about the chargesheet, Zeeshan questioned the exclusion of the builder lobby as a potential angle. “I do not agree with this. I want to know if Anmol Bishnoi confessed that he murdered Baba Siddiqui. Has anyone interrogated Anmol Bishnoi or Lawrence Bishnoi? If the builder lobby is being ruled out, my question is, has either Bishnoi said that no builder asked them to kill my father?” he asked earlier this month.
Zeeshan revealed that his father was in contact with several individuals regarding the slum redevelopment project and had a habit of documenting details in a diary. On the day of the murder, a specific name was recorded in Baba Siddiqui’s diary. Zeeshan further stated that a WhatsApp call between his father and an individual regarding the redevelopment project occurred between 5:30 and 6:00 pm that day, with the person requesting a meeting.
Recalling the night of October 13, Zeeshan said he was at a nearby restaurant when he received news that his father had been shot. He rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where his father was admitted to the ICU but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Zeeshan, who ran unsuccessfully as an NCP candidate for the Bandra East Assembly seat last year, continues to demand a comprehensive investigation, urging authorities to consider the potential involvement of the builder lobby in the case.
The Siddiqui murder case remains a high-profile investigation, with ongoing calls for clarity on the motives and conspirators involved.
