New Delhi [India], January 22: Veteran Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman recently took to Instagram to share a frightening experience that unfolded late one night when she nearly choked on her blood pressure medication. In a candid post, the actress offered a rare glimpse into her life outside the spotlight.
Describing the incident, Zeenat began by humorously acknowledging her age, writing, “At the risk of sounding like an old lady suffocating on her tablets, allow me to share with you what happened last night.” She recounted how, after a long and busy day at a studio in Andheri East, she returned home to her exuberant dog, Lily, and began her nightly routine.
“My very last task before I could surrender to sleep was to take my blood pressure medication,” she explained. However, things took an unexpected turn when the pill became lodged in her throat. “I popped the pill into my mouth, took a sip of water, and then felt my breath catch. There it was, this little pill lodged in my throat. Too far down to regurgitate and too far up to swallow.”
Panicking and left alone with only her dog and five cats for company, Zeenat tried in vain to swallow more water in an attempt to dislodge the pill. As fear set in, she urgently called her son, Zahaan, who quickly abandoned his plans and rushed to her aid. Once together, they managed to contact a doctor, who reassured them that the pill would eventually dissolve on its own. Zeenat spent the next few hours sipping warm water, waiting for the situation to resolve.
Reflecting on the experience, Zeenat shared how it made her think about life’s challenges and the importance of patience. “I woke up this morning feeling a little sheepish about the ordeal. But having been through it, I feel the need to contrive a metaphor from the experience,” she wrote. The actress drew a parallel between the discomfort of the stuck pill and life’s difficulties, emphasizing the value of patience, restraint, and keeping one’s composure.
“The pill is a metaphor for that situation. It was all I could think about, its discomfort was intense, I sought solutions from others, but ultimately all I could do was practice patience and control over my own fears,” she said.
Zeenat concluded her post with a reflective note: “Sometimes it’s important to tackle an issue head-on. To confront, challenge, and change. But sometimes a situation requires those other softer acts of patience, restraint, and equanimity.”
