Yuzvendra Chahal Takes Fresh Dig At Dhanashree Verma, Post Goes Viral

The Indian leg-spinner, who divorced Dhanashree earlier this year after four years of marriage, shared a provocative and swiftly deleted Instagram Story that referenced a Delhi High Court ruling.

The Controversial Post

The now-viral screenshot shared by Chahal featured a news clipping of a court verdict stating, “Financially independent wives cannot demand alimony from their husbands.” Adding a cryptic caption, Chahal wrote in Hindi, “Maa Kasam Khao Nahi Paltoge iss Decision Seh” (Swear on your mother you won’t go back on this decision).

While Chahal deleted the post shortly after, the screenshot instantly went viral, prompting widespread speculation that it was a pointed remark directed at Dhanashree, particularly against the backdrop of their reported ₹4 crore (approx.) alimony settlement. The separation, which was finalised in March following proceedings at the Bombay High Court, has been one of the most talked-about splits in the sports and entertainment world.

Alimony Banter and Clarification

Adding fuel to the fire, the cricketer recently engaged in light-hearted banter with former India opener Shikhar Dhawan. After Dhawan posted glimpses of his family’s Diwali and Bhai Dooj celebrations, Chahal commented, “Aapke pose pe copyright maar raha hun bhaiya, 4 crores only.” Dhawan played along, replying, “Deal pakki.” Fans were quick to link the “₹4 crores” figure to the widely speculated, though unconfirmed, alimony amount.

For her part, Dhanashree Verma has previously addressed the alimony rumours. During a reality show appearance, the choreographer firmly stated that the reports about the high payment were false.

“Officially, it has been almost a year. It happened quickly because it was mutual, that’s why when people say alimony, it’s wrong… Just because I am not saying anything, you will go on saying anything? My parents have taught me to only justify to people whom I care about. Why waste time explaining those who don’t even know you?” she clarified.

The Legal Backdrop

Chahal’s post coincided with a recent Delhi High Court judgment which, in the case of a financially independent spouse, rejected the claim for permanent alimony. The judgment underscored that maintenance is intended for dependents and not to be a tool for enrichment for financially sound partners.

While Chahal’s side has remained publicly silent on the financial details since the divorce, his cryptic social media activity has once again put the spotlight on the highly publicised and dramatic end to his four-year marriage with Dhanashree Verma.
