YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia Faces Investigation Over ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy

Guwahati (Assam) [India], March 7: YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia visited the office of the Crime Branch, Guwahati Police Commissionerate, on Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into the controversial India’s Got Latent show. The show, which has drawn widespread legal and public backlash, is under scrutiny for its explicit content.

The controversy began after an FIR was filed by the Guwahati Police on February 10, accusing several prominent influencers and YouTubers, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahabadia, and Samay Raina, of promoting obscenity. The FIR includes charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, and the Cinematograph Act, focusing on the vulgar and inappropriate discussions that occurred during the show.

On February 27, Ashish Chanchlani appeared before the Crime Branch with his advocate, where police recorded his statement. The police registered a case under Cyber PS case no. 03/2025, which includes charges of promoting indecent representation of women and engaging in obscene conduct.

As the legal proceedings escalated, the influencers involved in the show appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on March 6. Along with Ranveer Allahabadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Makhija, and the show’s producers, Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari, provided statements to the NCW Chairperson and legal team in relation to the controversial remarks made during the episode.

The controversy surrounding the show ignited outrage when inappropriate comments made by guests went viral, leading to widespread calls for stricter regulation of online content. Ranveer Allahabadia and Apoorva Makhija both recorded their statements before the NCW, addressing the issue and the backlash.

In the midst of the legal proceedings, Ashish Chanchlani took to social media to express his gratitude for the support from his fans. In an emotional video shared on Instagram, he acknowledged the difficult times he was facing and thanked his followers for their messages. “Main aap sabse bas yahi request karta hoon ki meri family aur mujhe apni prayers mein rakhna,” Chanchlani said, asking for their continued support when he resumes posting content.

Meanwhile, Ranveer Allahabadia, who also faced significant criticism for making an inappropriate comment during the show, issued a public apology. “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry,” Allahabadia said in a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He emphasized his commitment to using his platform more responsibly, particularly due to his influence on younger audiences. “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect,” he added.

In a related development, the Supreme Court has granted Ranveer Allahabadia permission to resume his popular podcast, The Ranveer Show, under specific conditions related to decency and morality.
