Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has hit back at ex-Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq for his recent remark suggesting that India should prove its dominance by facing Pakistan in 10 Tests, 10 ODIs, and 10 T20Is.
Saqlain’s statement sparked backlash, particularly after India’s thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final. Yograj dismissed the challenge, suggesting that Pakistan should instead try competing against India’s ‘B’ team.
Yograj’s Scathing Response
Reacting to Saqlain’s comments, Yograj told media:
“I read Saqlain’s comment. What is he even trying to prove? They don’t know how to appreciate others; they just talk. Many mouths have now been shut. They haven’t learned anything in 78 years, so what can I teach them? Those who constantly criticize their own players should first fix their own system.”
Taking a swipe at Pakistan’s cricket and governance, Yograj added:
“They should learn how to run a country from India and its government. It feels like India is playing against a local team. If Pakistan wants a challenge, they should first try playing against our ‘B’ team.”
Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Disaster
While India celebrated another ICC triumph, Pakistan endured yet another disappointing campaign, crashing out in the group stage of a global event for the third successive time.
Hosting a major ICC tournament for the first time in 29 years, Pakistan’s campaign quickly unraveled:
- They suffered a 60-run defeat against New Zealand in their opening match.
- The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash ended in another loss for the defending champions.
- Pakistan’s qualification hopes rested on Bangladesh upsetting New Zealand, but the Kiwis secured a five-wicket win, sealing Pakistan’s exit.
- Their final match against Bangladesh was washed out due to rain, officially ending their campaign.
Following the disastrous tournament, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to overhaul its white-ball squad, aiming to rebuild for future ICC events.
