Yashasvi Jaiswal Equals Dravid, Sehwag As Joint-Fastest Indian To 2,000 Test Runs

Birmingham [UK], July 4: India’s young batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name alongside legends Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag by becoming the joint-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. Jaiswal reached the milestone in his 40th innings during the final session on Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Friday.

The 23-year-old left-hander brought up the landmark with a thick edge past the gully for four, showcasing his aggressive approach as he looked to extend India’s lead. By achieving the feat in 40 innings, Jaiswal matched the pace of Dravid and Sehwag, surpassing icons like Vijay Hazare, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sunil Gavaskar.

Jaiswal also became the second-youngest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs at 23 years and 188 days, behind only Sachin Tendulkar, who did so at 20 years and 330 days.

However, Jaiswal’s innings came to an end on 28 off 22 balls when he missed a drive and was trapped lbw by Josh Tongue. Though he reviewed the on-field decision, replays confirmed three reds, ending his quick-fire cameo that included six boundaries. Earlier in the match, Jaiswal had narrowly missed out on a century, falling for 87 off 107 balls to Ben Stokes in India’s first innings.

Jaiswal’s struggles against right-arm pacers continued, with each of his dismissals in this series coming against them, averaging just 30.25 across his four innings in England.
