New Delhi [India], June 30: The Yamunotri National Highway has been blocked at two locations between Silai Band and Ojri after sections of the road were washed away, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Uttarkashi Police shared on social media platform X, stating, “The Yamunotri National Highway is blocked at two places between Silai Band and Ojri due to some parts of the highway being washed out. It may take time to restore the route.”
Additionally, debris has blocked the stretch of the highway between Brahmkhal and Mahargaon. Clearing operations are currently underway in both locations.
“Additionally, the Yamunotri Highway is blocked near Brahmkhal and Mahargaon due to debris, and work to clear it is ongoing,” the police post added.
According to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Tehri Garhwal district recorded an average rainfall of 79.2 mm on Sunday. The heavy rains have disrupted essential services, with electricity supply affected in Agrakhaal, Chamba, Jakhindhar, and Dughamandar areas. Water supply has also been impacted in Chamba block.
Meanwhile, the 24-hour suspension of the Char Dham Yatra, imposed following a heavy rain alert, has been lifted.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey told ANI, “The 24-hour ban on Char Dham Yatra has been lifted.” He added that district magistrates along the yatra route have been instructed to monitor weather conditions closely and halt vehicular movement if required.
The suspension came after a cloudburst near Barkot caused a massive landslide, killing two workers and leaving seven others missing. Although repairs have been completed on the Barkot-Yamunotri road segment affected by the landslide, search operations for the missing individuals are ongoing.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed, “The washout that happened due to a cloudburst before Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road has been repaired, and the road has been made smooth. Work is ongoing to restore other damaged portions.”
