Guntur: In a chilling case of premeditated murder, a woman in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district allegedly killed her husband by serving him biryani mixed with powdered sleeping pills, before strangling him to death with the help of her lover, police said.
The incident occurred in Chiluvuru village, where the death was initially projected as a natural heart attack. However, a post-mortem and forensic investigation later revealed that the victim had died due to suffocation and chest injuries, leading to the arrest of both accused.
Victim Identified; Extramarital Affair Revealed
The victim has been identified as Lokam Shivanagaraju. According to police, he was murdered by his wife Lakshmi Madhuri and her alleged lover Gopi, with whom Madhuri had been in an extramarital relationship for an extended period.
Investigators said the crime was carefully planned to eliminate Shivanagaraju and disguise the killing as a sudden medical emergency.
How the Murder Was Executed
On the night of the crime, Madhuri prepared biryani for her husband, mixing powdered sleeping tablets into the dish. After consuming the food, Shivanagaraju fell into a deep, drug-induced sleep.
Madhuri then called Gopi to the house. Together, the pair allegedly placed a pillow over Shivanagaraju’s face, suffocating him until he died.
Attempt To Pass Off Death As Heart Attack
Following the killing, Madhuri allegedly attempted to conceal the crime by informing villagers that her husband had suffered a heart attack. She raised an alarm in the early hours of the morning and alerted neighbours, claiming it was a sudden death.
However, suspicion was raised when Shivanagaraju’s father and friends noticed visible injuries and blood stains on the body. They lodged a complaint with the local police, prompting an official investigation.
Post-Mortem, Phone Forensics Expose Crime
The post-mortem examination confirmed that the death was caused by suffocation combined with chest trauma, ruling out any natural causes.
During the investigation, police also conducted a forensic analysis of Madhuri’s mobile phone, which reportedly revealed that she had spent the night sitting near her husband’s body while watching pornographic videos, further strengthening suspicions.
Accused Confess, Probe Continues
Both Madhuri and Gopi were taken into custody. During interrogation, Madhuri allegedly confessed to planning and executing the murder along with Gopi.
Police said further investigation is ongoing to establish all aspects of the crime, including the timeline and possible additional evidence.
