Woman Alleges “Inhuman Behaviour” And Racism Against 56 Indians At Georgia-Armenia Border

A woman has posted on Instagram about what she says was “inhuman behavior” and prejudice that a group of 56 Indians faced at the Sadakhlo Border between Armenia and Georgia. The woman said that the group, all of whom had valid e-visas and documentation, were treated badly in a post that tagged Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

“This is how Georgia treats people from India.” The user wrote, “Shameful and unacceptable!” and asked Indian officials to step in.

She said that the group had to wait for more than two hours in frigid temperatures without food or a bathroom. She said that their passports were taken away and that they were “forced to sit on the footpath like cattle.” The tweet also said that officials stopped them from filming the events yet acted like they were criminals.

The Instagram user’s post has gotten a lot of attention and started a topic on social media about how Indians are treated in Eastern Europe. Someone said, “This is the second time this week I’ve heard about Georgian officials treating Indians badly!” I wonder what’s happening. Another person had a similar story of a trip to Georgia in 2019, saying that they were handled “like a criminal” during the immigration process, although they were eventually allowed in.

The statements also brought up other Eastern European countries in the discourse. One person said, “People think that Indians are treated well in Eastern Europe, but that’s not true.” You might be surprised to learn that there have been more cases of racial profiling in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and Armenia.
