GURUGRAM: A woman from Jaipur says that an unknown man exposed himself and masturbated while looking at her on a busy road in Gurugram. This is a frightening case of public sexual harassment. The 30-year-old model, who has since filed a police report, talked about the terrible experience on social media, where her video of the event has gone viral.
The Hindustan Times said that the event happened on August 2 at around 11 am near Rajiv Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur route. The woman, who was waiting for a taxi, said that a man wearing a mask on his face started to go about her. “He was always looking at me,” she stated in her video. “At first, I didn’t pay attention to him, but then I saw that his pants were unzipped. He looked at me and then started to jerk off. He knew what he was doing. He wanted me to feel bad.
At first, the woman said she was “frozen and shocked” by what the man did. But she instantly calmed down and started filming the man with her phone. She went home after the man left and put the footage online to ask for help. She said that the police didn’t do anything when she first asked for help, so she posted a second video that went into detail about the whole thing. This got a lot of attention and led to a formal police reaction.
After her message went viral, the Gurugram police filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Civil Lines police station. The FIR was filed under sections 75(2) (sexual harassment) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Sandeep Kumar, the Gurugram police’s Public Relations Officer, told the Hindustan Times that the police are looking into the situation. “He was wearing a mask, denim pants, a checkered shirt, and a backpack on his front,” Kumar added. He also claimed that police are currently looking through CCTV footage from the neighborhood to find and follow the culprit. The police have also written down the woman’s formal statement.
