New Delhi, India : The Delhi High Court on Monday officially updated its supplementary cause list, announcing the immediate withdrawal of judicial responsibilities from Justice Yashwant Varma until further notice. The decision comes in light of recent developments surrounding the judge, particularly the controversy involving the discovery of a large sum of cash at his residence following a fire incident on March 14, 2025.
Justice Varma Denies Allegations, Calls It a ‘Conspiracy’
Justice Yashwant Varma has strongly refuted all allegations, maintaining that neither he nor his family had any connection to the cash found at the property. He has further claimed that the incident is a “deliberate conspiracy” to frame him.
The Supreme Court, on late Saturday night, released an inquiry report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. The report indicated that the issue requires a deeper investigation.
Supreme Court Orders High-Level Inquiry
In response to the controversy, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna has constituted a three-member committee of senior judges to conduct a thorough probe into the allegations.
Justice Varma, in his official response, denied any wrongdoing and insisted that the cash was not placed in the storeroom by him or his family members. He clarified that the fire broke out in an outhouse, not the main building where he and his family reside.
The investigation into the matter continues, with both the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court closely monitoring developments.
