Indian tennis saw mixed fortunes at Wimbledon 2025 on Wednesday. Yuki Bhambri, alongside American partner Robert Galloway, advanced to the second round in men’s doubles with a confident 7-6(8), 6-4 win over Manuel Guinard and Romain Arneodo. The 16th-seeded Indo-American duo dominated net play and sealed the match in 1 hour and 49 minutes.
The first set went into a tense tie-break, but Bhambri’s aggressive positioning paid off. A crucial break in the second set saw them cruise to a straight-sets victory.
In contrast, Rohan Bopanna, a former world No.1 in doubles, suffered a disappointing early exit. Partnering with Belgium’s Sander Gille, Bopanna lost 3-6, 4-6 to the third-seeded German pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in just 1 hour and 4 minutes. The Germans dominated with their powerful serves and precise shot-making, leaving Bopanna and Gille little room to counter.
Meanwhile, Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli, another Indian in action, teamed up with Nicolas Barrientos of Colombia to pull off a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 7(13)-6(11) win against Alexandre Muller and David Goffin. Their match, lasting 2 hours and 19 minutes, featured a nail-biting super tie-break that saw the Indo-Colombian duo scrape through to the second round.
With Bhambri and Bollipalli progressing, Indian hopes remain alive in the men’s doubles draw at Wimbledon.
