Will Reeve Explains Why He Has Never Considered Playing Superman

Washington [US], February 22 : Will Reeve, the youngest son of the late Christopher Reeve, recently shared why he’s never been inclined to don Superman’s iconic red cape. The 32-year-old ABC News correspondent discussed his brief appearance in the upcoming Superman reboot during an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark

When co-host Kelly Ripa expressed surprise that DC Studios had never approached him to play Superman, Will explained, “No, I’ve never gotten the ask. I learned at an early age from my parents, who were both accomplished performers, that in order to succeed in entertainment—or really in anything, but certainly in entertainment—you need to need the craft like you need air to breathe.”

Will’s father, Christopher Reeve, famously portrayed Clark Kent/Superman in the 1970s and 1980s Superman films, and his mother, Dana Reeve, was a talented singer and actress. Christopher passed away in 2004, while Dana died in 2006 from lung cancer.

Will elaborated on his own journey, saying, “It has to be a core part of who you are.” Although he participated in school plays, acting was never something he felt a deep need for. “For me, I acted in school plays and things, but that was just part of who I was. I didn’t need it. I realized as an ambitious person, I should channel my energies into the things that I’m really passionate about, which is what led me to journalism.”

During his interview, Will also talked about his cameo in the upcoming Superman movie, which stars David Corenswet in the lead role. Will’s role consists of a single line, and he humorously shared that he needed three takes to get it right. “I was terrified is how it compared” to his usual work in live television, noting that this experience came with its own set of challenges. “There are extras that are moving on my cues, and I’ve gotta nail this and I don’t know what I’m saying because I don’t have context,” he said.

Despite being nervous, Will mentioned that the film’s director, James Gunn, reassured him that fans would enjoy his cameo because he is Christopher Reeve’s son. Will also shared that his family, which includes his older siblings Matthew Reeve and Alexandra Reeve Givens, has always supported Superman projects but never felt any ownership over them. “We’ve always rooted for and supported whatever Superman projects are out there,” Will said, “It would be nice if we did.”

Will’s cameo in Superman marks a unique connection to his father’s legacy, and fans can look forward to seeing the Reeve family’s presence in the film.
