Will Jacks Shines In All-Round Role As Mumbai Indians Beat SRH By Four Wickets In IPL 2025

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]: Will Jacks delivered a stunning all-round performance to power Mumbai Indians (MI) to a vital four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. With this win, MI registered their third victory of the season.

Chasing a target of 163, Mumbai finished the game in 18.1 overs, thanks in large part to Jacks’ impressive contribution with both bat and ball. The English all-rounder picked up 2/14, dismissing Ishan Kishan and Travis Head, and later scored 36 runs off 26 deliveries, guiding MI through a tricky middle phase of the chase.

His efforts earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Jacks reflected on a challenging start to the tournament:

“The tournament’s been a bit of a slow start for the team and myself–was incredibly frustrating,” Jacks said.
“Very happy to have done that,” he added.

He also owned up to an early fielding error:

“Tough start, dropping a catch first ball. I was a bit late on it, not much else to say, should’ve caught it.”

Despite the early setback, Jacks made a significant impact in both departments. He admitted it took time to adapt to his new franchise but now feels settled.

“Taken me a bit of time to settle into the new franchise, comfortable and confident now.”
“Great setup, loads of star players to learn off, trying to take advantage of that.”

The win lifted Mumbai Indians to seventh place on the points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, this marked their fifth loss of the season, further complicating their campaign.

Earlier in the match, MI chose to bowl first after winning the toss. SRH made a solid start with Abhishek Sharma (40 off 28) and Travis Head (28 off 29) putting on 59 runs for the first wicket. Despite a useful knock by Heinrich Klaasen (37 off 28), SRH managed only 162/5 in 20 overs. MI bowlers, led by Will Jacks (2/14) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/21), kept the scoring in check.

In response, MI’s top order came out aggressively. Rohit Sharma (26 off 16) and Ryan Rickelton (31 off 23) got them off to a fast start. A key 52-run stand between Jacks (36) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 15) put MI in a commanding position. Despite a late scare with wickets falling near the end, Tilak Varma (21 off 17)* held his nerve and saw MI over the finish line with 11 balls to spare.

For SRH, Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) bowled well, but their efforts fell short of defending the modest total.
