Why Karisma Kapoor Is Fighting a ₹30,000 Crore Legal Battle For Her Children

NEW DELHI — A major legal dispute has erupted in the wake of industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s death, as his children with actress Karisma Kapoor have filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court. The children, Samaira Kapur, 20, and Kiaan Kapur, 14, are challenging the validity of their late father’s will and have accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of forgery.

According to court documents, Samaira and Kiaan allege that they were wrongfully excluded from their father’s will, which they claim leaves his entire personal estate to his widow, Priya, and her minor son. In the lawsuit, the children state that their father had “repeatedly assured” them of their financial security and a share in his assets.

A Challenged Will and Allegations of Forgery

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of the children by their mother Karisma Kapoor, argues that the will, dated March 21, 2025, is not a “legal and valid document” and is “forged and fabricated.” The children’s legal team alleges that the will is surrounded by “suspicious circumstances,” noting that their stepmother initially denied the existence of any will, claiming all assets were held under the R.K. Family Trust. However, she later produced the document, which prompted the family’s suspicions.

The plea further states that neither the original will nor a copy has been provided to them. In a move to shield her children from the media spotlight, Karisma is representing them in court, with her standing in for her minor son Kiaan as his legal guardian.

The Defendants and Family Feud

The legal action targets four defendants: Priya Kapur, her minor son, Sunjay Kapur’s mother Rani Kapur, and the woman identified as the executor of the contested will. The family feud has reportedly been simmering since Sunjay Kapur’s death in June, which was ruled an accident that caused a heart attack while he was playing polo in London.

Samaira and Kiaan’s plea emphasizes their close relationship with their father, including frequent travel and involvement in his business. They accuse Priya Kapur of concealing details about their father’s assets and failing to disclose the full extent of his estate.

This high-profile case is one of several recent legal battles over celebrity estates in India, highlighting the complexities of inheritance disputes and the legal challenges that can arise in high-net-worth families.
