Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Monday evening after experiencing respiratory discomfort. The 79-year-old veteran has a history of chronic cough and bronchial asthma, and doctors have confirmed that her condition was mildly exacerbated by Delhi’s cold weather and poor air quality.
Hospital Chairman Dr. Ajay Swaroop stated that Gandhi is receiving antibiotics and supportive treatment. Her condition is currently stable, and she is responding well to care. The admission has been described as a routine precautionary measure for observation and further medical management.
Dr. Swaroop added that the decision on her discharge will depend on her clinical progress, which is expected within a day or two. Gandhi had previously been hospitalised in June 2025 for a stomach infection and for a routine check-up at Shimla’s Indira Gandhi Medical College.
