UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, during her India visit, condemns recent terror attacks, signs cultural cooperation pact, and praises upcoming Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.
New Delhi, May 4:
United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, has reaffirmed her country’s solidarity with India in the wake of the recent terror attacks, calling the UK-India relationship “very long and very deep.”
During her visit to India, Nandy expressed heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack and underscored the UK’s unwavering stance against terrorism in all forms.
“Our Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, was very pleased to send his condolences directly to Prime Minister Modi. The UK stands with India against terrorism, always. When you’re hurting, we’re hurting,” Nandy told ANI.
She joined Indian officials in a minute of silence, paying tribute to the victims and reinforcing the UK’s commitment to global anti-terror solidarity.
New Cultural Partnership Between India and UK
Nandy also announced the signing of a new cultural cooperation agreement between India and the UK, aimed at strengthening ties across various creative sectors.
“Across film, fashion, TV, music, and gaming, the UK and India excel. Through collaboration, we can do much more,” she said.
She highlighted joint efforts between the UK’s Science Museums Group and India’s National Science Museums, including co-curated exhibitions, shared touring collections, and knowledge exchange — a model Nandy hopes will extend across other creative industries.
India to Host 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup
Nandy expressed excitement about India hosting the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, the first time since 2013. She recently met with members of the Indian women’s cricket team during her visit.
“The Indian women’s team is visiting the UK this summer along with the men’s team. I hope they’ll inspire young women here, just as the England Lionesses have done,” she added.
Strengthening Bonds Through Sport and Culture
Nandy’s remarks reflect a growing strategic and cultural alignment between India and the UK, focusing on shared values, creativity, and mutual support in times of crisis.
