White House Confirms Trump Diagnosed With Chronic Venous Insufficiency, Declared In “Excellent Condition”

After Karoline Leavitt revealed on Thursday that President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), the White House physician released a detailed memo regarding the president’s health status.

White House physician Sean Barbarella stated that Trump is in “excellent condition,” providing insight into the 79-year-old’s recent medical tests and diagnosis.

Make-up was seen partially covering the back of President Trump’s right hand as he shook hands with Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. This visual, along with images of Trump’s swollen ankles, had raised public speculation about his health.

In a memo addressed to Leavitt and released to the press, Barbarella wrote that Trump “noted mild swelling in his lower legs,” prompting a thorough evaluation by the White House Medical Unit “in keeping with routine medical care and abundance of caution.”

Tests showed no evidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a potentially more serious condition related to CVI. Furthermore, the memo stated there were “no signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness.”

Here’s the memo excerpt:

“The President underwent a comprehensive examination, including diagnostic vascular studies,” the memo read.

“Bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70. Importantly, there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or arterial disease.

“Laboratory testing included a complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel, coagulation profile, D-dimer, B-type natriuretic peptide, and cardiac biomarkers. All results were within normal limits. An echocardiogram was also performed and confirmed normal cardiac structure and function. No signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness were identified.”

Concerns around President Trump’s health were triggered by recent photos showing discoloration on his hands, possibly concealed with makeup, and multiple images of his swollen ankles.

Notably, Trump had previously undergone a routine check-up in April 2025, which also concluded that he was in “excellent condition.”

On Thursday, Karoline Leavitt addressed the media again and criticized them for their repeated focus on the President’s hands and his use of aspirin, saying the attention was unwarranted.
