Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase starred with the ball after Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive unbeaten 76 powered West Indies to a convincing win over England in Mumbai.
West Indies produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat England by 30 runs in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match in Mumbai on Wednesday, with spinners playing a decisive role in the victory.

After being put in to bat, West Indies posted a competitive total of 196 for 6, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten knock from Sherfane Rutherford. The left-hander smashed 76 off 42 balls, hammering seven sixes and two fours to anchor the innings. Roston Chase (34) and Jason Holder (33) provided crucial support, ensuring the Caribbean side finished strong.
In response, England were bowled out for 166 in 19 overs while chasing 197. The West Indies spinners dominated the middle overs, with Gudakesh Motie picking up three wickets and Roston Chase claiming two, breaking England’s batting momentum.
Sam Curran top-scored for England with 43 not out, while Jacob Bethell (33) and Phil Salt (30) made useful contributions, but the chase never fully gained momentum.
For England, veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid and pacer Jamie Overton picked up two wickets each, but they could not prevent West Indies from posting a formidable total.
The victory strengthens West Indies’ position in the tournament and underlines their growing dominance with spin, especially on subcontinental pitches.
